During World War II, the North Carolina Shipbuilding Company transformed the Cape Fear River into a hub of wartime production, launching 243 vessels between 1941 and 1946. These ships, including Liberty ships and cargo carriers, played a critical role in transporting troops, equipment, and supplies across the globe, helping sustain the Allied war effort.

Historian John Moseley, Curator of Education & Outreach at the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport, will present “Launching Liberty: The North Carolina Shipbuilding Co. and Its Ships.”
