In 1937, shipbuilders at the Brooklyn Navy Yard began the construction of a ship that would become 
a symbol of strength, resilience, and victory— the USS North Carolina (BB-55).
Launched in 1941, the USS North Carolina was the first of the U.S. Navy’s fast battleships, a marvel of
engineering and craftsmanship made possible by the dedication of shipbuilders who answered the call of history.
