This fall, the Battleship North Carolina will mark a historic milestone with a powerful and symbolic tribute to two of our nation’s most storied military branches. The initiative, called “250 for 250,” will honor the 250th anniversaries of both the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps with a dramatic display of patriotism and gratitude.
On October 13, 2025, in honor of the Navy’s founding, and again on November 10, 2025, for the Marine Corps’ birthday, a total of 250 American flags will be flown aboard the Battleship North Carolina. Each flag represents North Carolina’s enduring appreciation for the armed forces and the generations who have proudly served under their banners.
These flags are more than a striking visual tribute—they are a way for community members to take part in history. Each flag will be made available as a keepsake, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, so supporters can carry forward this extraordinary moment. Proceeds from the initiative will directly support the ongoing preservation of the Battleship North Carolina, ensuring it remains a living memorial to her crew and the nearly 11,000 North Carolinians who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War II.
A Community of Honor
The flag-raising will not be a solitary effort but rather a shared act of remembrance and pride. The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, the Navy League of the United States Wilmington Council, and the Marine Detachment at Camp Lejeune will all participate, underscoring the deep ties between the Battleship, the armed forces, and the community it represents.
