Welcome to the Official Battleship North Carolina website

Standing with quiet dignity and majesty across the river from downtown Wilmington, the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA beckons visitors to walk her decks and envision daily life as well as fierce combat that her crew faced in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

From all across the Nation they came, young men who had grown up in the crucible of the Depression and now determined to serve their Country in its time of need. These are the young men whose stories you will encounter through their oral histories, uniforms, and mementos as you explore the ship and its exhibits.

We are delighted to have you visit our website. Whether a potential visitor to Wilmington and the Cape Fear Coast of southeastern North Carolina, a school child or teacher, a researcher, or a fan of battleships or of naval heritage, you will find hundreds of pages of useful information on the Battleship site. Also, pay close attention to the photograph and quote boxes throughout the site. To maximize your enjoyment and dynamic interaction with the site, there are a number of plug-ins recommended. All of the plug-ins are free but it will take time to download. For each section of the site, the navigation bar on the left side of the screen contains to Enjoy This Site. Click on it for further information.

The focus of the six primary sections that you see on the navigation bar of the Battleship
site are:
Visitors: if it's tourism related, it's here – for individuals, groups, and tour operators. Hours of operation; admission prices; calendar of events; rental of spaces for corporate functions; directions to the Battleship, plus information and links to the Wilmington and Myrtle Beach area convention & visitors bureaus and other attractions, etc.
Lucky Bag: in Navy tradition, the Lucky Bag is a storage aboard ship for lost and found items but on the Battleship site it refers to all information that doesn't fit into the other specific sections. The Lucky Bag covers who we are, descriptions of our affiliate organizations, and other information.
History: history and heritage of the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA as well as information on all ships named for the State of North Carolina.
arrow Museum: In addition to being a memorial, the Battleship is a museum with a large collection of documents, photographs, artwork, textiles, memorabilia and oral histories.
Kids: games and activities for kids of all ages.
Teachers: lesson guides and activities to support State of North Carolina
curriculum requirements for K – 12.
Ship's Store: selections of books, gifts, Battleship apparel and other naval or
nautical items available for purchase
